Frequently Asked Question

Our Favorite Gear for Happy Walks & Outings

  • 2Hounds Design Freedom No-Pull Harness

If you want to reduce pulling on walks the first thing you’ll need is a properly fitted FRONT CLIP HARNESS. Clipping your leash to the back of your dogs harness will not prevent them from pulling.

This is my favorite no-pull harness because it easily fits a wide range of dog body types. The colors are super fun too! The Freedom No-Pull Harness is available to purchase locally in Santa Fe at Marty’s Meals (Shine) or online through Chewy & Amazon. Be sure to measure properly before purchasing and check out my blog post for tips on getting your pup to love their new harness.

  • Leather Leash or Biothane Leash ~ 4ft to 8ft

I am obsessed with a good ol’ fashioned leather leash! Leather and biothane leashes are soft on the hand and make walking so much nicer. Consider the size of your dog when purchasing your leash, and if your dog is on the bigger/stronger size I recommend a wider leash. I’ve had my leather leash for close to 10 years and can’t remember where I purchased it. You might try local pet shops, Chewy or Amazon.

  • Long Line ~ 12ft to 20ft

Long lines are a great piece of gear to have in your training tool box! I like the biothane material long lines, but there are many other options. We’ll discuss line wrangling & safety during your coaching sessions. We use long lines for working up to off-leash recall and to give your dog more freedom to explore on hikes.

Check out my favorite biothane long lines and leashes from High Tail Hikes, a small business located in Oakland, CA.

  • Treat Pouch or Hip Pack

Don’t worry, fanny packs are back in style! You’ll want to choose a treat pouch that secures around your waist and is sturdy enough to hold a couple ziplock sandwich baggies full of yummy treats.

This is a very necessary piece of gear for leashed walks, hiking, puppy socialization and training with your dog.

I use the Rapid Rewards pouch by Doggone Good (be sure to get the waist strap!), but really any sturdy hip pack will do.

I do not recommend the smaller flimsy pouches that clip on a waistband. REI has some good options and you get 10% back if you’re a member! They can also be found on Amazon pretty easily.
